If you're a photographer looking to build awareness of you and your brand in your local area, Billy covers step by step how you can do it – no matter how new you are as a professional photographer. He makes it very clear that success and popularity has little to do with skill level and more to do with creative marketing. Then goes on to elaborate about some very cool ideas you can implement in your business.
Here's some more of what we cover:
Following the interview, you should be equipped with a stack of new marketing ideas to grow your business and get noticed in your community. You may not have the courage to do something “crazy” right off the bat but hopefully you'll have the tenacity to target some influential people and create opportunities to get noticed.
At the very least, you'll know there is never an excuse to not be shooting to grow your business. Whether it's for paid work or in exchange for services, you need to be shooting.

Hi Andrew and Billy!
This podcast was excellent. I very much appreciated the business and entrepreneurship included in this episode. I am absolutely going to subscribe to Billy’s podcast! Interestingly, while I was listening to the podcast, I was on my way to a free photo session for a local dog rescue group. I believe in their cause and the owner was kind enough to return the favour by recommending me to many of the pet owners. We’re already booked some and are going to be hosting a “Celebration of Adoption” fundraising event. Our fledgling business is off and running now!
Thank you both for all that you do!

It’s encouraging to hear that what Billy was preaching works in real life for photographers Amanda.
I think your approach with the dog shelter is something that Caitlin McColl and Charlotte Reeves both talked about in their interviews. As successful pet photographers, make sure you check their interviews if you haven’t already. Be warned about what caitlin shares though… She is freakishly organised! 🙂
Good to hear your off and running too!
Loved this interview! Will definitely be checking out Billy’s podcast!
Obviously the huge takeaway is value exchanges with influencers when you are not yet at max capacity. It is such a simple yet powerful technique for building a great portfolio and getting referrals at the same time.
Have a great Easter!
Yep, I think you nailed the BIG takeaway in this episode Justin. I reckon Billy’s approach is definitely worth trying, especially if all your spare time is simply thrown at blogging and social media.
Easter has been great – hope you enjoyed some time off too.
This was GREAT info! I’m in a small town, so these tips to stand out and get exposed were really helpful! Thank you:)
Thanks Nicole, glad to hear there was good value in the interview for you.
