How would your photography look and feel if you didn’t shoot to publish?

I don’t know about you but I feel every time I shoot, something has to be good enough to publish – on Instagram, Facebook or my blog. And it has to be “like” and “comment” worthy… whatever that is.

There is pressure to perform every time I pick up the camera. It’s crazy!

How would it be if that pressure was removed and it didn’t feel like a waste if there just wasn’t something worth sharing or posting?

Wouldn’t that mean there’d be more time to experiment, play and just have fun with photography?

Wouldn’t that mean you’d have more time to be creative, learn and really find how and what you love to shoot?

Wouldn’t that mean freedom?

Remember when you first picked up a camera and started to learn how to use it? You’d shoot anything and everything without a care in the world. Not every photo was good, there’s a good chance hardly any were good. But it was FUN!

How good would it be to return to feeling like that with the skills you have now?

Is that the secret to becoming a better photographer? Stop overthinking. Stop oversharing. Keep experimenting, playing and having fun.

Maybe we don’t need to be accountable to an audience (no matter how big or small) with everything we do. Maybe it’s ok to just shoot and share moments with whoever you’re with at the time or keep them to yourself.

Would that be so bad?
