Shawn Black of www.coutureblack.com was introduced to me via an email from long-time member, Allana Taranto.
She wrote…
I had coffee yesterday with boudoir photographer Shawn Black. He and his wife also run the AIBP — Association of International Boudoir Photographers.
I think he would be a great guest for the podcast — they are all about fostering community, education and elevating boudoir.
I reached out to Shawn and wanted to learn a little more about his photography business first.
I discovered that in addition to the AIBP, he runs his own studio, Couture Black, in Boston, where he's been photographing over 125 women each year for the last 12 years.
He's been a full-time pro photographer for 16 years and started out in wedding photography before transitioning to boudoir.
Interestingly, his wife Michelle, the studio manager, was dead against Shawn moving into the genre at the start.
In this interview, Shawn shares what’s changed in his business, what stopped working, and how he’s adapted to keep bookings and sales strong.
Here's some more of what we covered in the interview:

The money hasn’t disappeared — it’s just harder to earn because what used to work… doesn’t anymore. — Shawn Black

IPS Like a MoFo Training – Kicks off THIS WEEK!
If your IPS sessions feel awkward… inconsistent… or you’re hearing “we’ll think about it” more than you’d like…
This is for you!
Because most photographers don’t have a sales problem.
They have an IPS problem.
Richard Grenfell has built a process that delivers $3–4K in average sales with a 97–98% conversion rate.
No pressure.
No discounting.
No “sales tricks.”
Just a better way to run the entire experience.
And the part most photographers miss?
They're losing the sale before the session even begins.
If your work is strong… but your numbers don’t reflect it…
Do not miss this.

Secondly, iTunes and Google are the most significant podcast search engines, and your reviews and ratings help other photographers find PhotoBizX.
