The good news is you can apply the principles and approach that Luisa shares and apply them to any genre of photography or business for that matter. In four years, Luisa is not only one of the countries most respected newborn photographers, she prides herself on running a successful business and not simply having photography as a hobby.
Luisa has won multiple awards for her incredibly beautiful work, which you absolutely must see, and most recently was announced runner up Australian Family Photographer of the year in 2014.

thanks for the podcast, a good listen as usual
Interesting to hear Luisa Dunn saying that traditional direct marketing wasn’t working for her in her genre of photography. Its a very specialized area of photography and miles from what I shoot but as you said Andrew, much of the information can be applied across many genres and business types.
Luisa control of natural light and image processing is very impressive.
cheers
PS. what does “A feed could not be found at http://orlandosydney.com/. A feed with an invalid mime type may fall victim to this error, or SimplePie was unable to auto-discover it.. Use force_feed() if you are certain this URL is a real feed.” on the CommentLuv link below mean ?
Glad you enjoyed this one Orlando and that you still picked up a fee things not being a newborn photographer.
Totally agree too with your comments about Luisa’s photography skills – she certainly creates beautiful work.
In regard to your feed – after a little research, it sounds like there may be something wrong with the RSS feed from your website. Could be a plugin setting on your SOE plugin if you’re using one. If so, is the plugin set to have your site automatically indexed?
Like many of your interviews they need to be listened to more than once…
thanks for the info on the feed, I’ll dig around from my side with the RSS function. I’m using a mostly standard squarespace template.
An interview with a photographer who is also a website and SEO expert would be of interest to many I’d think
O
I’m the same when listening to podcasts Orlando – it’s either take notes on the fly or re-listen.
You should find some info regarding your RSS feed in the help files at Squarespace.
Noted on the SEO expert. Have you heard the Gabriel Machuret, Zach Prez and William Bay episodes?
I have a web design expert lined up for March… Stay tuned!
thank you for the reply and info.
Good article from what I could read, very interesting comments from listeners
I’ll keep a very keen ear out for the March interview
cheers
I really enjoyed listening to this podcast. I love how she prepares with what her clients want and makes the whole session led by the baby.
The point she made about profit and making sure that she is keeping it in mind when she developed her packages etc rang in my head. As a mum I too think about the time away from my kids that results from being in business.
Louisa’s work is beautiful. Seriously thinking about that workshop now!
Love that you enjoyed this episode Te.
Being away from my family and kids most weekends is always something I’ve struggled with too. I guess the message is if we’re going to be away, it had better be worth being away.
Whether that means charging more or clearing time during the week or both is something every photographer has to find a solution to.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy and be inspired by Luisa’s workshop if you go.
