Anna Cunningham of www.annamunrophotography.com and www.popinphotos.com came to my attention in a recent interview with New Zealand based photographer Michelle Fey.

In that interview, she mentioned Pop In Portraits and off we went on a wild tangent about this incredible sounding concept to generate leads, get known in the local community and supplement your photography income with these specialised mini sessions.

Today's guest, Anna, is the founder of Pop In Portraits. She started her photography business ten years ago and says if you're from Wellington, New Zealand, and you don't know at least one person who she's photographed, that would be a big surprise.

In addition to her photography business, she's busy taking Pop-in portraits around NZ, Australia – and soon… right around the world!

In this interview, Anna shares everything you ever wanted to know about Pop In portraits and how you can apply the concepts she's learned to grow your photography business.

Here's some more of what we cover in the interview:

  • How Pop in Portraits started
  • What are pop in portraits and how it works?
  • How pop in portraits benefit photographers
  • How many bookings can photographers generate from pop in portraits?
  • Will $20-sessions damage your photography brand?
  • Anna's studio setup
  • Anna's thoughts on competition copying her business
  • How can photographers join Pop in Portraits?
  • Using specific branding to differentiate from other pop in photographers
  • What Anna's photography business was like before starting Pop in Portraits
  • Pay structure when hiring photographers for your studio
  • Training new photographers who want to join pop-ins
  • Marketing pop-ins
  • Marketing strategy to convert pop in clients into full paying portrait clients
  • Why you should be doing email marketing for your photography business
  • Why Anna doesn't offer incentives and discounts
  • Pricing and packages
  • Why Anna prefers shoot-and-deliver as opposed to IPS
  • Why your emails should have more photos than text
  • Anna's booking process
  • A modern customer's purchase behaviour
  • Who can join Anna's Popaholics fan group?
  • How Anna keeps the engagement going in her Popaholics group

Each week I check for any new iTunes reviews and it's always a buzz to receive these… for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, it's confirmation that I'm on the right track with the interviews and that they really are helping you improve your photography business. That's awesome!

Secondly, iTunes is the biggest search engine when it comes to podcasts and it's your reviews and ratings that help other photographers find PhotoBizX. More listeners mean more interviews and ultimately a better show.

If you haven't and you'd like to, head to https://photobizx.com/itunes and you can leave some honest feedback and a rating which will help both me and the show and I'll be sure to thank you on the show and add a link to your website or blog if you let me know the URL of your website and your name.

Alternatively, if you've left a review for PhotoBizX and are looking for more backlinks to help your SEO, leave a review for the new Photography Xperiment Podcast and email me your keywords or keyword phrase and where you'd like me to link to.

The general public don't read things. I certainly don't read things. So, keep it punchy, add some photos to catch their attention, and clearly illustrate what it is you are selling. – Anna Cunningham
